Although I only attended St Catherine’s College for one Michaelmus term in the autumn of 1989, I have fond memories of my Oxford experience. At St Catz, I rowed in a novice college crew — Kanga boat, so named after alumnus A. A. Milne, author of the Winnie the Pooh series. And Matthew Pinsett also matriculated in the same year, but he went straight to rowing in the Oxford University boat and we never got to see him.
St Catz dutifully keep in touch through their annuals and occassional fundraising appeals. Last year they offered a “pre-subscription” purchase of a 50th anniversary commemorative book about the college — “a lively portrait of St Catherine’s, from its beginnings as a Society and its foundtion as a College through to the present day as a thriving part of the University of Oxford”.
It took me nearly a year to get round to making my pre-order, but I look forward to receiving it sometime this September, with my name listed as a St Catherine’s College attendee.
