A snowy Co. Down Sunday

After yesterday being a crisp and very sunny day, all day, it was a pleasant surprise to wake up to snow this morning — a good inch or so in my part of Co. Down. Persuaded Madame Oui to have us take a jaunt to Mount Stewart for lunch and a (presumably) snow covered walk around its lake.

En route, the snow was coming down as heavy rain. Oh no! And we noticed there was significantly less snow on the ground than our side of Strangford Lough. At least we’d enjoy a hearty lunch, which we did.

By the time we finished our meal, the rain had stopped and the sun was piercing through breaks in the clouds. To our delight, the lake was partially covered by a thin sheet of ice, with trails of duck and other bird prints.

There were few ramblers about, which made the scenic walk through nature that much more serene.
