Halifax Visa PayWave arrives

Unexpectedly received a replacement Visa debit card from Halifax, as current one wasn’t due to expire for a few years. Reason is the introduction of Visa PayWave, which implements contactless technology.

The card will let you pay for things less than £10 by just holding the card over a contactless reader, without having to key in any PIN.

These PayWave cards have been around in London for some time, and have finally made it to the outer reaches of the United Kingdom.

But before anyone gets too excited, according to Visa’s PayWave website www.visapaywave.co.uk, it looks like the only retailer accepting the card in Northern Ireland is Cafe Nero (College Street and Ann Street).

At least the next time I’m in London it’ll be novel way of paying for lunch at Pret A Manger.
