Postbox row MLA told to say sorry (Belfast Telegraph)

Barry McElduff MLA has been told that he must make a public apology in the Northern Ireland Assembly, after apparently excusing young republicans painting ordinarily red Royal Mail postboxes green. The Assembly’s committee on standards and privileges confirmed that McElduff broke the MLAs’ code of conduct in relation to the duty to uphold the law.

Very important indeed, but makes me smile as I recall seeing so many postboxes in the Republic of Ireland that bear the insignia “ER” (King Edward VII?): never replaced, simply repainted from red to green!
