2008 USA voter registration stats

More illustrative than scientific, I have combined data of state voter registration figures for the 2008 USA General Election, with actual voter turnout figures for 2004. I am impressed by the degree of increased voter registration in particular states (e.g. Texas with 3,819,000 new registered voters, for a state total of 13,500,000, second only to California).

Of course, voter registration and voter turnout are two different animals. But presuming a conservative Democrat-to-Republican voter registration of 3:1, and using only the same voter turnout figures for 2004, the result could be a Democrat landslide that digs deep into state politics.

For me, regardless of result, the GOP must acknowledge the chasm that now exists between registered Democrats and registered Republicans.
