Ali from the Dutch parliament, as her citizenship was stripped away
because she lied when applying for refugee status in the Netherlands. Hirsi Ali was an outspoken critic of aspects of Islam, and became a
campaigner for free speech, after the murder of film director, Theo van
Gogh, in November 2004. My favourite quotation from her resignation speech is:
“That transition from becoming a member of a clan to becoming a
citizen in an open society is what public service has come to mean for
Hirsi Ali is to move to the US, where she is going to work for the American Enterprise Institute.
